(NEW YORK) — A video that allegedly shows Johnny Depp arguing with his estranged wife Amber Heard months before she was awarded a temporary domestic violence restraining order and filed for divorce from the actor surfaced on Friday, a day before her scheduled deposition.
The clip, obtained by TMZ, appears to show Depp, 53, yelling and throwing a wine bottle in a kitchen.
Sources connected with Depp tell TMZ the video is “heavily edited” and that the video was a set-up by Amber.
In a statement to People magazine through her rep, Heard insists, “I am not responsible for the release of the video. It was not what I wanted and I am doing what I can to force the media to take it off the internet.”
TMZ notes it’s likely the tape will not be admissible in court, since California law requires that all parties participating in the recording are clearly notified beforehand. However, TMZ reports the tape is specifically entered in an exhibit in Amber’s case.
Heard, who filed for divorce in May after a year of marriage, claimed Depp was abusive throughout their relationship, and was granted a temporary restraining order.
